Sarawak Strengthens Global Digital Partnerships At MWC 2026 In Barcelona
BARCELONA: Sarawak has reinforced its global digital ambitions with a strong presence at the Mobile World Congress 2026 (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, underscoring the state’s sustained commitment to digital transformation and international collaboration.
In a keynote address delivered by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang at the official launch of the Sarawak Pavilion, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi reiterated the Sarawak Government’s resolve to accelerate digital innovation, expand strategic global partnerships and position the state as a leading digital economy within ASEAN.
MWC 2026, one of the world’s most influential technology gatherings, provided a strategic platform for Sarawak to showcase its digital ecosystem, investment potential and progress in smart infrastructure, connectivity, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, semiconductors and other emerging technologies.
The participation reflects Sarawak’s broader ambition to deepen international cooperation in driving sustainable economic growth and technological excellence.
Five memoranda of understanding were exchanged between Sarawak agencies and international technology firms to advance the state’s digital agenda.
The signatories were Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd and Hewlett Packard (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre and Illamatica; as well as Sacofa Sdn Bhd with WorldSensing, S.L. and ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd.
The collaborations are expected to catalyse knowledge transfer, technology adoption and capacity building, while opening new avenues for investment and innovation within Sarawak’s digital landscape.
Aligned with the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 and the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, the state’s participation aims to build a digitally empowered society, enhance public service delivery and foster a resilient, innovation-driven economy.
Through high-impact partnerships at MWC 2026, Sarawak continues to strengthen its standing as a progressive and future-ready digital hub in the region.
