Sarawak Attracts Canadian Interest In Exploring Collaboration In Energy, Agriculture & Aerospace
KUCHING: Sarawak continues to attract the attention of international partners as Canada explores strategic collaboration opportunities in the energy, agriculture and aerospace sectors.
Canadian High Commissioner to Malaysia Jodi Rae Robinson said Canada has numerous innovative companies and expertise that can be leveraged to support Sarawak's development priorities in these areas.
According to Robinson, this also opens up space for both parties to share technology and knowledge in industries that have the potential to continue expanding in Sarawak.
“We have many innovative companies from Canada as well as knowledge in areas that are Sarawak’s priorities such as energy, agriculture and aerospace which I understand are new areas for Sarawak.
“There are many opportunities for us to collaborate in these sectors,” she said.
She said this to reporters after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at the Kompleks Satria Pertiwi, here on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Robinson shared that Canada also sees the potential to support Sarawak in ensuring that the mining industry is implemented in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
According to her, Canada recognises Sarawak’s commitment in ensuring that mining activities are carried out with environmental sustainability in mind.
“I know the Sarawak Premier has a very strong commitment to ensuring that any mining activity is carried out sustainably.
“Therefore, we are looking at how Canada can support Sarawak from the perspective of the mining industry while ensuring that it is implemented sustainably,” she said.
Later, the Sarawak Premier also received a courtesy call from the Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia Marianne Fosland. -UKASnews
