CHINA: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) continues to strengthen its international network with the sealing of an Enhanced Friendship City Agreement with the City of Huangshi, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China, in an effort to expand strategic cooperation across various sectors towards sustainable development.
The agreement, signed at The Camphor Garden Reception Hall in Huangshi, symbolises the continued commitment of both cities to further empower the bilateral relationship that has been in place since 2018, while opening a new chapter for more dynamic and high-impact cooperation.
The signing ceremony was officiated by MPP Chairman, Cr Tan Kai, and Huangshi Mayor, Wu ZhiLing, and witnessed by delegations from both sides.
Also present were MPP Municipal Secretary, Ir Ts Goh Thiam Ho, together with members of the delegation, while the Huangshi side was represented by its senior leadership, including Deputy Mayor Guo Bao as well as several directors from key departments.
The collaboration focuses on official exchanges, trade, education and tourism, while strengthening the foundation for joint development based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit.
In his speech, Wu ZhiLing expressed confidence in the broad potential for cooperation between the two cities, particularly in leveraging Huangshi’s industrial strengths, as the city is well known as a major industrial hub with advanced technological expertise.
Meanwhile, Cr Tan Kai described the signing of the agreement as a significant step in expanding MPP’s international cooperation horizon, while also creating new opportunities in economic, educational and cultural development.
He also conveyed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Huangshi authorities and expressed hope to further strengthen ties in eco-tourism and industrial exchanges, in line with Padawan’s potential as an area rich in cultural diversity and natural resources.
During the visit, the MPP delegation also paid visits to key educational and industrial institutions, including Hubei Normal University and Hubei Polytechnic Institute.
The visit provided exposure to the close collaboration model between higher education institutions and local industries in talent development, which could potentially serve as a reference for Padawan.
In addition, the level of advanced technological development among enterprises in Huangshi also opens up opportunities to enhance business exchanges between companies from both cities.
Through the sealing of this agreement, MPP and Huangshi are optimistic about continuing to explore new opportunities that can stimulate economic growth, strengthen social development and further reinforce international relations on an ongoing basis. -UKASnews
