SIMANGGANG: The youth of Sarawak are urged to play a more active role in advancing the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 by leveraging opportunities in the fields of digital technology, green innovation and global economic network.
Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the youth also need to strengthen social ties through community collaboration, knowledge sharing and culture solidarity.
“The combination of economic vision and social strength has opened opportunities for them to expand business empires that are not only profit-orientated but also grounded in humanitarian values and sustainability.
“In other words, today’s youths are no longer just consumers in the economy but have become creators of ecosystems that connect commerce with social identity and culture,” he said.
He said this while delivering a brief speech at a gotong-royong programme to clean up the Bukit Temudok Chinese cemetery rest shed, organised by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Simanggang branch in collaboration with Clan Cheng, Che Chuan Khor, Soon Heng, Teo Chew Youths and the Benak Cycling Club on Sunday.
The Simanggang Assemblyman added that Sarawak’s youth are also seen as the primary drivers of the future economy through their involvement in realising the PCDS 2030 which serves as the state development framework, where youth play a vital role as the key catalysts in ensuring Sarawak’s development agenda can be implemented more effectively.
He opined that youth must leverage opportunities in the e-commerce sector, green innovation, and social ties to shape Sarawak’s new economic landscape through PCDS 2030 while fostering a competitive and socially grounded trade ecosystem.
The clean-up activity was held in conjunction with the Qing Ming Festival, where members of the Chinese community paid respects to their ancestors by cleaning graves, offering food and flowers, and burning joss paper as part of traditional rites.
