Unity Of 15 Biannah Villages A Major Catalyst For Progress
SIBURAN: The unification of 15 sub-ethnic Biannah villages since the establishment of the Biannah Association in 2012 continues to be a primary catalyst for unity, development, and community progress in the region.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, sais that the association plays a significant role as a unifying platform for the Biannah community across 15 villages, ensuring that their identity, history, and origins are preserved.
According to him, Kampung Annah Rais serves as the ancestral heart of the Biannah people, boasting a history of over 200 years.
It acted as the starting point for the community's expansion into other villages, such as Kampung Sebakar, Kampung Sebuang, Kampung Semuti, and Kampung Sadir.
The Mambong Assemblyman highlighted several strategic development initiatives aimed at boosting the socio-economic status of rural residents such as emphasising the importance of upgrading road infrastructure, specifically the Tebedu–Semuti–Sadir route, to provide wider access for economic growth.
The government has allocated approximately RM8 million for the development of tourism products in Kampung Annah Rais.
This funding includes the development of a waterfront, community tourism programmes, the construction of an amphitheatre, and cultural exhibition houses.
“The development of culture-based tourism not only provides an economic spillover to Kampung Annah Rais but also benefits surrounding villages through a chain effect,” he said during the Persatuan Biannah 2026 Gala Dinner on Saturday.
Deputy Chairman of the Biannah Association Simbas Mair explained that the association was founded to unite the community, strengthen management, and look after members' welfare — including disaster relief, bereavement support, and educational assistance.
He clarified that the gala dinner was not intended as a fundraiser, but rather as a platform to strengthen kinship ties and reinforce community networks among the Biannah people.
Since its inception, the association has consistently channeled aid and implemented community initiatives benefiting residents across all 15 involved villages.
Also in attendance were the Administrative Officer in Charge of the Padawan Sub-District Office, Julius Scott Sapong, and Kuching District Bidayuh Pemanca, Raymond Jihap. — UKASnews
