‘Jangkar’ To Portray Sarawak’s Historical Struggles, Inspires Awareness Among Younger Generation
KUCHING: The harrowing chapter of Sarawak’s history during the communist insurgency is set to be brought back to life through the film ‘Jangkar’, highlighting the sacrifices and struggles of past heroes as a meaningful reminder for today’s generation.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the film goes beyond entertainment, serving as a strategic medium to convey messages of awareness, appreciation and responsibility towards the nation’s history.
He noted that the state government through his ministry supports the initiative as it fosters a sense of patriotism, elevates cultural and historical values, and reinforces messages of unity and harmony within society.
“At the same time, it contributes to the growth of Sarawak’s creative industry as a sector with significant economic potential.
“More importantly, this film raises awareness of events that took place 54 years ago. It reminds us that the peace we enjoy today is the result of sacrifices made by fallen heroes.
“This film is not merely about history. It is about gratitude, remembrance and responsibility,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the ‘doa selamat’ ceremony and launch of filming for Jangkar, here on Monday.
Also present was Film Producer and owner of Metrowealth International Group Datuk David Teo.
