Sting Muay Thai Crowned Sarawak TYT Cup Champions, Proving Local Combat Sports Dominance
KUCHING: Sting Muay Thai Club from Kuching achieved a proud victory when they were crowned champions of the 10th Edition of the Sarawak Governor (TYT) Cup Muay Thai Championship, which took place in a lively atmosphere at the Kuching Waterfront on Saturday.
The success simultaneously demonstrates the ability of local athletes to compete at a high level in a championship that also saw international participation from Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore.
The runner-up spot for the championship was secured by Muay Thai Kenyalang, while third place went to Rentap Muay Thai.
In the meantime, Rentap Muay Thai also recorded their own achievement by clinching the champion title for the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor’s Cup.
Mayor of DBKU Dato Hilmy Othman in his speech stated that Sting Muay Thai’s success reflects the positive growth of combat sports in Sarawak and is the result of continuous efforts to produce competitive athletes.
According to him, the championship serves not only as a platform to unearth new talent but also strengthens Kuching’s position as an international-standard combat sports hub.
“The participation of 350 athletes, including those from abroad, proves that this championship is gaining increasing recognition and is capable of being a catalyst for the state's sports and tourism development,” he said.
He also emphasised that the consistent hosting of the championship provides a positive impact on the local economy through increased tourist arrivals and domestic spending activities.
At the same time, he urged athletes to continue maintaining discipline and sportsmanship, and to use the championship as a field to gain experience and expand international friendship networks.
This edition of the championship also witnessed the introduction of the Borneo Cup for the first time, thereby opening a new chapter in strengthening regional cooperation within the combat sports arena. —UKASnews
