KUCHING: Kuching City FC (KCFC) Head Coach, Aidil Sharin Sahak, stressed that his team wants to prove something ahead of the 2026 Malaysia Cup final.
Despite facing a daunting test against Super League leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) FC at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Aidil stated that as a coach, he remains adamant about winning and becoming the champion.
He explained that, as a foreign coach coming here, he is always striving to prove something, that his team is capable of being better than the rest.
“This is where competition plays a major role, as we will be up against a giant like JDT.
“I hope everyone enjoys the football and the atmosphere today, and that we bring that same energy to Bukit Jalil so we can see two great teams in action at the final,” he said.
He said this during the press conference following the match between KCFC and Selangor in the Malaysia Cup semi-final second leg at the Sarawak State Stadium on Saturday.
Commenting on Saturday night's match, he praised his squad for playing exceptionally well, particularly following Petrus Shitembi's lone goal in the 30th minute.
He remarked that Selangor FC, despite being down to nine men in the second half, continued to pile on the pressure against KCFC in their quest for an equaliser.
Therefore, he and his squad must learn how to manage the game while under pressure, by remaining composed and playing their natural game.
“We created many chances; I believe we hit the woodwork twice today. We should have had more than one goal, but a win is a win,” he said.
“This is a positive step for the players' confidence as they chase second place in the league,” he added. -UKASnews
