KCFC Refuse To Be Complacent, Focus On Second Place In Super League With Eyes On Asian Stage
KUCHING: Despite successfully advancing to the Malaysia Cup final, Kuching City FC (KCFC) refuse to be complacent and will remain focused on chasing second place in the 2025/2026 Super League in their quest to secure a slot in Asian competition.
KCFC Head Coach Aidil Sharin Sahak stated that while the Saturday match is a meaningful moment to be celebrated and enjoyed, the team must regain their focus upon returning to the training camp in their pursuit of second place in the league.
He explained that the next target is to take Sarawak and KCFC to a higher level, competing at both the ASEAN and Asian stages.
“Of course, I want to take KCFC to the ACL Cup or ACL Elite, as those are among the best competitions.
“We see that Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) FC are also performing well, so we want to follow in the positive footsteps of JDT.
“Hopefully, we will take it step by step because it isn't easy to achieve this in a short period of time,” he said.
He said this during the press conference following the Malaysia Cup semi-final second leg between KCFC and Selangor at the Sarawak State Stadium on Saturday.
Commenting on Saturday night’s success, Aidil stated that the achievement was the result of the tireless efforts of the players and management, who have successfully raised the profile of KCFC within just two years.
Reflecting on his early days at KCFC, Aidil noted that the crowd used to consist of only 100 to 200 people; however, the presence of high-calibre players has led to the stadium being consistently packed.
“This is all down to the players' performance; they have worked incredibly hard, and their target since pre-season has been to reach the Malaysia Cup final.
“The KCFC President (Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman) also wanted it, and I feel the players have delivered that gift tonight,” he remarked.-UKASnews
