Mosque Featuring Chinese Architecture Proposed, A Symbol Of Sarawak’s Harmony
SIBU: The proposed construction of a new mosque featuring Chinese architectural characteristics in Taman Apollo has the potential to become a manifestation of the unique cultural harmony that forms the core of Sarawak’s multiracial society.
Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, stated that the initiative not only reflects the state's diverse cultural identity but is also expected to provide a positive impact on local community development.
“I would like to invite us all to join in praying that the planning for the construction of this new mosque can be realised in the near future.
“This project will not only serve as a symbol of the uniqueness and cultural harmony in Sarawak but will also bring great benefits to the local community,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Aidilfitri Open House jointly organised by Masjid Darul Firdaus, the Apollo Deshon Neighbourhood Watch (KRT), and PerSoNa Sarawak Region at Masjid Darul Firdaus here on Friday.
In the meantime, Datuk Michael noted that an open house is more than just a festive celebration; it serves as an important platform to strengthen unity and foster closer ties among people of various races and religions.
According to him, the harmony enjoyed in areas like Taman Apollo is the result of practicing values of mutual respect, cooperation, and a strong spirit of neighbourliness among the residents.
“This is the true strength of our society in Sarawak that we must continue and defend,” said the Pelawan Assemblyman.
He also praised the active involvement of local residents in ensuring the success of community programmes, which he noted as the foundation for developing a more prosperous and progressive society.
During the same event, he also announced a contribution of 30 round tables along with chairs to the mosque to support the needs of future community activity organisation.
Also present at the event were the Chairman of Masjid Darul Firdaus Junaidi Mohamed Mokhtar, Chairman of KRT Apollo Deshon Abang Mohamad Hafiq Abang Kassim, and National Vice President of PerSoNa Malaysia, Halmi Morsili. — UKASnews
