More Than 3,000 Join ‘Niti Daun’ Parade In Conjunction With Bintulu Gawai Dayak Celebration
BINTULU: The ‘Niti Daun’ programme held in conjunction with the 2026 Bintulu District-Level Gawai Dayak Celebration successfully attracted the participation of more than 3,000 participants at the Bintulu Esplanade on Saturday.
This year’s programme brought together 73 registered teams in addition to members of the public from various backgrounds, including government agencies, longhouse Village Development and Security Committees (JKK), clubs, associations and students.
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development as well as Samalaju Assemblyman, Datuk Majang Renggi said the overwhelming response received proved that the culture and recreational-based programme had gained strong support from the community.
“This ‘Niti Daun’ programme was organised for the first time through collaboration with the District Office and government agencies.
“The response has been very encouraging with participation from various segments of society including government departments, longhouse JKKs, clubs, associations and students in Bintulu,” he said after leading the programme’s parade.
According to him, the programme will continue as an annual event following the positive reception from the local community.
Apart from the walking activity, the programme was further enlivened with ‘gendang pampat’ performances, the traditional ‘miring’ ceremony and prize presentations to the winners.
Also participating were Bintulu Division Resident, Datu Nyurak Keti, and Bintulu District Police Chief, Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali. -UKASnews
