CoPER Strengthens Performance Monitoring Of Contractors, Consultants In Sarawak
KUCHING: The development of the Contractor/Consultant Performance Evaluation Report (CoPER) system serves as a mechanism to ensure that development projects in Sarawak are executed in a more efficient, transparent, and integrated manner.
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Second Minister for Finance and New Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that CoPER will ensure that the performance of contractors and consultants is comprehensively monitored throughout project implementation.
According to him, the system does not merely function as an evaluation tool, but also enables the performance of contractors and consultants to be recorded, monitored, and tracked more systematically.
“The implementation of CoPER offers great benefits in identifying high-performing contractors and consultants, besides allowing follow-up actions to be taken against parties that fail to meet the set performance standards,” he said.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Wednesday.
In the meantime, he noted that a proactive approach is also being implemented to ensure all registered contractors and consultants comply with the registration terms and regulations set by the state government.
He shared that a total of 140 compliance inspections were conducted throughout the year 2025 to evaluate the compliance levels of registered companies.
He added that this step is crucial in creating a fair and competitive state procurement environment, while ensuring that only contractors and consultants who comply with the conditions remain within the state government's registration system. — UKASnews
