KUCHING: Sarawak is planning to establish the Kuching Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Campus in Tanjung Embang as a catalyst for the development of the state’s future AI Grid ecosystem.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said a 405-hectare site has been identified for the development of the project.

“It will be equipped with dedicated power and water supply to support data centre operations, AI computing and digital connectivity nodes,” he said.

He said this during his winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Wednesday.

He added that the project will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach, beginning with an initial phase covering approximately 120 hectares.

He said his visit to Isambard-AI, the fastest and most powerful AI supercomputer in the United Kingdom, has strengthened Sarawak’s aspiration to develop sovereign AI computing infrastructure capable of becoming the backbone of its digital future.

He further explained that this ambition positions Sarawak as a key player in the regional digital economy, fostering innovation, valuing talent, and ensuring the people benefit from the shared AI revolution. -UKASnews
