Establishment Of SACED Strengthens Sarawak's Energy Diplomacy & Environmental Sustainability
KUCHING: The establishment of the Sarawak Climate and Energy Diplomacy Unit (SACED) is a strategic step by the Sarawak government to strengthen energy, climate, and sustainability diplomacy at both domestic and international levels.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that its establishment in April this year will serve as the main driver for coordinating climate and energy-related policies, in line with Sarawak's efforts to reinforce its position in the global green economy.
“SACED will help ensure that Sarawak's governance approach remains organised, credible, and aligned with the state's overall economic standing and international relations,” he said during his winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
Commenting further, he emphasized that the establishment of this unit is in line with Sarawak's active exploration of next-generation climate technologies, including seawater-based carbon removal, low-carbon hydrogen co-production, and advanced carbon management solutions.
“Climate, energy, and sustainability are no longer just environmental issues; instead, they have become an essential part of economic planning that impacts Sarawak's long-term competitiveness,” he added.
With the establishment of SACED, Sarawak is seen as taking increasingly aggressive strides to expand its influence in energy diplomacy and the sustainable development agenda on the global stage. — UKASnews
