UKAS With The Community Programme Serves As Bridge Between Government & Rakyat
DEBAK: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) continues to strengthen its role as a bridge connecting the government and the people through the organisation of the ‘UKAS Bersama Komuniti’ programme held in conjunction with the Mantar Gawai celebration at Rumah Belasau, Tuai Rumah Gara Tindin recently.
Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam expressed appreciation to UKAS for organising the meaningful programme, describing it as an important platform for delivering accurate, credible and timely information to the community.
The Saribas Assemblyman stressed that in line with the demands of the digital era and the rapid advancement of information technology, the agency has continued to evolve by leveraging social media platforms and smart applications alongside conventional media.
“We are able to obtain direct information on developments in Sarawak, and more importantly, avoid being misled by fake news that could threaten the state’s political stability,” he said.
He also advised the local community to remain vigilant against the spread of false information, particularly with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, while urging them not to be influenced by political turmoil outside Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Betong Member of Parliament Dato Dr Richard Rapu also congratulated UKAS and the organising committee for the successful programme, which he described as a symbol of thanksgiving ahead of the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration.
He called on the Debak community to foster mutual understanding and continue supporting their elected representatives to ensure the Sarawak Premier’s development agenda can be enjoyed collectively.
“When political stability in Sarawak is maintained over a long period, the Sarawak Government can focus fully on advancing the state’s socio-economic development, the benefits of which will ultimately be felt by our people,” he explained.
Touching on the rising cost of living, he noted that aside from initiatives introduced by the Federal Government, the Sarawak Government has also channelled the Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) to help ease the people’s burden.
At the same event, UKAS Deputy Director Mohamed Faizal Shah, representing the UKAS Director, explained that the agency’s primary role is to ensure information regarding government initiatives reaches every level of society to prevent manipulation by irresponsible parties.
Despite internet connectivity challenges in certain remote areas, he said this has not hindered UKAS’ efforts, as officers are stationed across every division to engage directly with local communities.
He also called for strong cooperation between residents and UKAS officers on the ground, while encouraging the public to make full use of UKAS digital platforms.
Also present at the programme were Betong District Officer representative Kato Dorsie, Pusa District Officer Anthony Peter Mihe Noel, Spaoh Sub-District Office Administrative Officer Denny Lim, Penghulu Kadan Ot and Tuai Rumah Gara Tindin. -UKASnews
