Community Visits Foster Dialogue With Residents, Provide Closer Look At Rural Development Progress
SARIKEI: A community outreach programme held across several longhouses in the Ulu Sarikei Bayong area not only provided an avenue for dialogue with residents, but also served as a platform to observe rural development progress more closely.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei Member of Parliament Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii led a visit to six longhouses on Thursday, namely Rumah Empaling Lanyau, Rumah Mawas Timbu, Rumah Gandom Balong, Rumah Padang Kasa, Rumah Tayan Gundi and Rumah Perada Achop.
Speaking during the visit, the Repok assemblyman extended Gawai Dayak greetings to the Iban community and expressed hope that the celebration would continue to strengthen unity and familial ties among people of various backgrounds.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the rakyat for their support and cooperation throughout his more than 10 years of service as the area’s elected representative.
According to him, the various development projects currently being implemented are the result of close collaboration between the government and the people in ensuring continued community wellbeing.
“I will continue championing rural development, including the construction of roads, drainage systems, agricultural roads as well as upgrading village and longhouse access routes for the comfort of residents,” he said.
During the visit, Dato’ Sri Huang also presented Projek Pintu assistance to longhouse committees involving a total of 196 ‘pintu’ as part of efforts to improve the wellbeing of rural communities.
The visit was also joined by residents from nearby longhouses including Rumah Landan Brundang and Rumah Jaman Gana. -UKASnews
