Quop Dayak Village Gong Replica To Undergo Upgrading
KUCHING: The gong replica that serves as a landmark symbolising the heritage of the Dayak community in Kampung Quop Dayak here will be upgraded with an allocation of RM30,000.
Stakan Assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim announced the allocation while officiating the gong replica in conjunction with the Gawai Day celebration at the Simpang Rundim Junction, Kampung Quop Dayak, on Tuesday.
According to him, the area has the potential to be developed as a stopover point and a photo attraction for visitors travelling along the route.
“I want this replica to be built in a more attractive manner and to resemble an actual gong so that it becomes a source of pride for local residents and attracts the attention of those passing through the area,” he said.
At the same time, Datuk Hamzah commended the efforts of the Kampung Quop Dayak community for remaining committed to preserving their cultural identity and traditional customs despite the growing influence of modernisation.
He noted that the gong is not merely a traditional musical instrument but also a symbol of the Dayak community’s heritage, history and pride that should continue to be preserved for future generations.
“Although times have changed and today’s generation is increasingly exposed to technology, efforts to preserve cultural symbols such as this gong are extremely important to ensure that the history and customs of the Dayak community are not forgotten,” he said. -UKASnews
