RM150 Million Investment Strengthens Lawas As Sarawak's New Northern Economic Hub
LAWAS: A private sector investment worth RM150 million through the development of Lepapa Hypermarket and Roxy Hotel is expected to become a new catalyst for Lawas's economic growth, thereby strengthening its role as a commercial, services, and tourism hub in northern Sarawak.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan stated that the large-scale investment reflects the high confidence of investors in the development potential of Lawas as well as the economic direction planned by the Sarawak Government.
According to him, close cooperation between the government and the private sector is crucial in accelerating economic development, attracting more investments, and creating job opportunities for local people.
“When the private sector is willing to invest a large amount, it shows that they are confident in the potential of Lawas and the development policies implemented by the government.
“Cooperation between the government and the private sector is vital in driving economic growth and creating job opportunities for the local people,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Launching Ceremony of Lepapa Hypermarket and Roxy Hotel here on Saturday.
Datuk Amar Awang Tengah added that the development is expected to provide a spillover of benefits to various economic sectors including commerce, tourism, and services, besides opening up more opportunities for local entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.
He noted that the implementation of various strategic infrastructure projects in Lawas and the northern region of Sarawak also serves as a catalyst in boosting investor confidence to execute large-scale developments in the area.
