Miri Residents Asked To Be Prepared For Scheduled Water Supply Disruption
MIRI: Residents in Miri, especially consumers affected by the scheduled water supply disruption following repair works on the Miri-Bintulu main pipe, are asked to make early preparations and follow official announcements from time to time.
Sarawak Minister for Transport and Senadin Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the execution of repair works has been planned in detail by the relevant authorities in cooperation with various agencies to ensure the impact of the disruption on consumers can be minimised.
According to him, the main water supply system in Miri relies on two large pipelines with diameters of 1,100 millimetres and 750 millimetres, which serve as the backbone of the city's water supply.
He noted that a leak has been detected in one of the pipelines, and further inspections are being carried out to identify the exact location of the damage before repair works are implemented.
“Consumers have also been given sufficient time to make early preparations, including storing water and ensuring their respective storage tanks are fully filled before the repair works begin.
“All information has been distributed to consumers through announcements, infographics, and various other channels. I hope the public can cooperate and make preparations according to the established plan,” he said.
He said this when met by the media after attending the Sembang Santai Programme organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Pengkalan Lutong and the Lutong Women's Club, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Miri Division, at the Kampung Baru Lutong Multipurpose Hall on Saturday.
He added that repair works on the leaking pipe are scheduled to begin on June 10 and are expected to be completed on June 11, with an execution period of around 24 hours.
According to him, the authorities are also providing water tankers and other facilities to enable the public to obtain water supplies if needed throughout the disruption period.
In the meantime, Dato Sri Lee said that continuous monitoring will be carried out throughout the duration of the repair works to ensure the latest information can be channeled to the public via social media, radio, and other official channels.
“If there is a need to extend the duration of the works, the information will be immediately informed to the public.
"Therefore, I advise residents to constantly follow official announcements to get the latest updates on the water supply status throughout the execution period of these repair works,” he stated. — UKASnews
