Sarawak Governor Attends End & Beginning Of Hijrah New Year Prayer Ceremony In Miri
MIRI: The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the Sarawak-level End of Year 1447 Hijrah and Beginning of Year 1448 Hijrah Prayer Ceremony held at Masjid At-Taqwa here on Tuesday.
Also present were the Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Misnu Taha, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religion Department, Ustaz Mual Suaud, deputy ministers; and heads of departments.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the End of Year 1447H Prayer before the Maghrib call to prayer, followed by a congregational Maghrib obligatory prayer.
The programme then continued with the recitation of the Beginning of Year 1448H Prayer, Surah Yasin, and a Maal Hijrah religious address delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Prof. Dato' Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim.
The congregational Isyak obligatory prayer was also performed before the ceremony concluded with a dinner reception, which was also attended by Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, and several members of the Sarawak Cabinet.
Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi is also scheduled to attend the Sarawak-Level Maal Hijrah Celebration Assembly for 2026 at the Miri Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.
The ceremony is among the key highlights of the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration, aimed at fostering an appreciation of religious values and strengthening community bonds in conjunction with the arrival of the new Hijrah year 1448H. -UKASnews
