Sarawak Strengthens Digital & AI Collboration With Lithuania
VILNIUS: The Sarawak delegation continues to strengthen international collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation and smart city development through a series of technical visits and high-level engagements in Vilnius, Lithuania, led by Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.
The programme began with a technical visit to Vilnius Traffic Management Centre, where the delegation was briefed on the city’s AI powered traffic management system. The system uses AI cameras to monitor intersections city wide traffic movement in real time, including traffic congestion, accidents and road conditions.
The delegation also observed Vilnius’ public transport monitoring system, which enables authorities to track delays and operational issues to improve transport efficiency.
The visit provided valuable insights into the use of AI technology in enhancing urban management and public service delivery.
Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah highlighted Sarawak’s ambition to transform into an AI driven economy by adopting innovative technologies that can also support government services, economic growth and improve the quality of life for the people.
Later in the afternoon, Sarawak delegation held a meeting with First Deputy Chancellor of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania Justas Pankauskas at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Joining the First Deputy Chancellor were Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania's Ambassador for Digital and Technological Diplomacy Lina Viltrakienė and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Investment Environment Vydūnas Trapinskas.
The meeting focused on exploring potential collaboration between Sarawak and Lithuania in AI development, digital transformation, cybersecurity and energy infrastructure.
Sarawak also highlighted its strategic location and potential to serve as a Digital Embassy for the European Union (EU) in the region.
The First Deputy Chancellor welcomed the opportunity for strategic cooperation that would benefit both parties. He also shared Lithuania’s experience in integrating energy grids within the European Union.
Meanwhile, Lina Viltrakienė emphasised that Lithuania focused on developing Human Centric AI where AI helps human and not replacing them. She also expressed Lithuania’s interest in strengthening partnerships with Sarawak, particularly in digital cybersecurity and space technology.
Both sides discussed the importance of effectively utilising AI data centres to support digital government initiatives and other technology-driven solutions.
