Department Of Agriculture Must Focus On Outcomes For Impact On The Rakyat
BINTULU: The Sarawak Department of Agriculture needs to change its service delivery approach by focusing on outcomes that bring real impact to the people, rather than merely executing projects or spending allocations.
Sarawak Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said that every member of the department must practice a high-performance work culture by ensuring that every planned program achieves its goals and benefits the development of the state's agricultural sector.
According to him, every division within the department must also identify existing weaknesses and implement continuous improvements to increase the efficiency of service delivery.
He stated that a "business as usual" work practice is no longer sufficient; instead, every member of the department must have a high sense of responsibility in meeting the expectations of the government and the people.
“Every level has its respective role to upgrade and empower the image of the Department of Agriculture.
“We have many programs and plans, but all of them are meaningless if they fail to be implemented and do not produce an impact,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the Sarawak Department of Agriculture Extension and Human Capital Empowerment Seminar 2026, here on Friday.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Agriculture Director Dominic Chunggat said that the seminar not only increased the competency of the department's staff but also strengthened team spirit and fostered closer ties among the workforce.
According to him, this year's seminar also featured a twist with the inclusion of sports activities to create a balance between professional development and the well-being of the workforce.
He added that the seminar also featured eight speakers who shared their knowledge and expertise in an effort to empower the skills and competencies of the participants.-UKASnews
