Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) and Chairman of the Sarawak LOC Secretariat Datu Hii Chang Kee said the event is aimed at building anticipation ahead of Sarawak's historic debut as co-host of the biennial Games which will be held from 18 to 29 September 2027.

“The event is being organised to raise public awareness that Sarawak will be a co-host of SEA Games 2027.

“Through this event, we want the public to learn more about SEA Games 2027, including the sports to be contested and the number of sporting events to be hosted,” he said when chairing a meeting on the event here on Tuesday.

According to him, the grand launch is scheduled to be officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at a venue to be announced in the near future.

In addition to launching the one-year countdown, the Sarawak Premier will also officiate the launch of the official SEA Games 2027 (Sarawak Cluster) website.

The website has been developed to support Sarawak's role as a host cluster by providing a centralised digital platform to promote the state as a premier destination for sports, tourism and culture.

It will serve as the official source of information for local and international audiences, offering comprehensive details on the SEA Games events hosted in Sarawak including the sports, competition schedules, venues, participating countries and other related information.

A total of 43 sports will be contested at the 34th SEA Games with Sarawak hosting 18 sports, including the opening ceremony at the Sarawak Stadium.

Besides Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur will host 18 sports, including the closing ceremony, while Penang will host six sports and Johor will stage one sport. -UKASnews
