KMKKs Urged To Better Understand Adopted Child Registration Procedures
SERIAN: Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKKs) have been urged to strengthen their role as the bridge between the government and the people by gaining a clear understanding of adopted child registration procedures to ensure every application is handled in accordance with the law while safeguarding the welfare and rights of children.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the registration of adopted children is a matter of great importance as it concerns the future, welfare and rights of the child.
According to the Tarat Assemblyman, all prescribed procedures must be adhered to so that the adoption process is carried out in compliance with the law while protecting the interests of all parties involved.
“If there are matters that are unclear, do not be embarrassed or afraid to seek clarification from the district officers or relevant agencies.
“It is always better to ask than to make assumptions that could eventually lead to mistakes,” he said while officiating the closing ceremony of the 2026 Serian Division Adopted Child Registration Procedures Briefing Programme at the Panggah Hall, Sarawak Government Administrative Centre (Serian Division), on Tuesday.
He also reminded participants of the importance of ensuring all documentation and registration procedures are completed accurately to safeguard children's legal status and rights, including their eligibility to receive the various benefits and assistance provided by the Sarawak Government.
The programme, attended by 125 participants comprising KMKKs from across Serian Division, aimed to provide greater exposure to the procedures and requirements for adopted child registration while enhancing understanding of their role in assisting the community with related applications.
Dato Sri Roland Sagah expressed hope that the knowledge gained throughout the programme would be shared with local communities so that more people understand the proper procedures for adopted child registration.
Also present were Serian Division Resident Mackos Sibong, Serian District Officer Inting Nyami, Tebedu District Officer Gerard George Entigar and Siburan District Officer Ranum Bari. -UKASnews
