Preparations For 11 SEA Games Venues In Sarawak Mostly Ahead Of Schedule
KUCHING: Preparations across 11 venues for the SEA Games Malaysia 2027 in Sarawak are currently on a positive track, with nearly all ahead of schedule, including the Sarawak Stadium which will serve as the opening ceremony venue.
Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that this progress demonstrates that venue upgrading works are progressing smoothly ahead of the games scheduled for September next year.
“Out of the 11 venues being upgraded, almost all are ahead of schedule, including the main stadium, Sarawak Stadium, where the opening ceremony will take place,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after officiating the Launching Ceremony of the One-Year Countdown to the SEA Games Malaysia 2027 here on Friday.
According to him, he received a briefing on venue preparations a day prior to the event and found that most upgrading works were progressing well ahead of initial planning.
In addition to competition venues, Dato Sri Abdul Karim noted that Sarawak is also focusing on the development of the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC), which will serve as the hub for broadcasting and transmitting match information and data to participating countries and worldwide.
He added that the IBC, being developed adjacent to the Baitulmakmur Building, is also progressing ahead of schedule.
“That is where the broadcasting and dissemination of specific information and data to participating countries and the world will take place.
“We are focusing on ensuring that data and information are seamlessly delivered to the participating nations, as they also wish to follow developments minute-by-minute and hour-by-hour,” he explained.
In the meantime, he stated that communication aspects with international contingents are also being addressed through the provision of interpreters to assist athletes and officials from countries that may not speak Malay or English.
He further informed that liaison officers will be assigned to assist in managing and guiding each contingent throughout their stay in Sarawak. — UKASnews
