Adong Kechil West Oil Well To Generate RM96 Million A Year
KUCHING: Oil production of 800 barrels a day from the Adong Kechil West well in Marudi could generate revenue worth RM96 million a year based on current oil prices, highlighting the potential of Sarawak's onshore oil industry.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said production from the single well is estimated at RM8 million a month, showing the potential of onshore oil resources to contribute to the state's economy.
"Oil production at Adong Kechil West in Marudi is 800 barrels a day, equivalent to RM8 million a month based on current prices, which is equivalent to RM96 million a year, from just one well," he said.
He said this in his speech at the Grand Parade and Rally in conjunction with the Celebration of the 80th Birthday of the Sarawak Governor at Padang Merdeka here on Saturday.
In another development, he also revealed that Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) is planning to develop another well in the middle of next year to supply gas to the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station in Miri.
"In addition, PETROS will also drill another exploration well in Kuala Baram, which has promising potential for gas production," he added.
In a related development, PETROS is developing a 65-kilometre gas pipeline from Kidurong to the Samalaju Industrial Zone near Bintulu.
The project is scheduled for completion at the end of this year, enabling the Samalaju industrial area to receive gas supply to support its industrial needs. -UKASnews
