Water Resources Give Sarawak Edge In Meeting Data Centre Cooling Needs
KUCHING: The availability of water resources gives Sarawak an advantage in meeting the cooling requirements of data centres, in addition to its ability to supply clean electricity to support the industry's operations.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that besides being used to generate clean electricity, water resources are also needed for data centre cooling systems, giving Sarawak an advantage over other parts of the country.
"Sarawak is also blessed by God with abundant water resources, which are used to generate clean electricity that forms part of Sarawak's economic strength, not found in other areas.
"Apart from being used to generate electricity, the abundant resources are also much needed for data centre cooling systems, and compared to other parts of the country, Sarawak also has an advantage in providing water supply for data centres," he said.
He said this in his speech at the Grand Parade and Rally in conjunction with the Celebration of the 80th Birthday of the Sarawak Governor at Padang Merdeka on Saturday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari stressed that human resource development, as well as the sustainability of resources and the environment, will be important elements in ensuring that the state's natural resource strengths can be harnessed alongside technological advancement.
"I am very confident that if these natural resources and energy strengths are combined with technology, research, innovation and expertise, with an emphasis on human resource development and the sustainability of resources and the environment, Sarawak will emerge as a new economic power in the region by 2030, God willing," he said.
In a related development, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari said Sarawak is also focusing on the semiconductor sector, advanced manufacturing, green energy, hydrogen and methanol production, artificial intelligence (AI), the aerospace industry, as well as agriculture and food manufacturing.
According to him, these sectors will be among the areas that shape Sarawak's future economic direction.
