KUCHING: Seven contingents emerged victorious, each crowned champion in one of seven competition categories in conjunction with the Grand Parade and Rally for the 80th Birthday Celebration of the Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Padang Merdeka on Saturday.

The Bintulu Development Authority topped the Enforcement category, while the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak emerged champion in the Ministries category.

In the Administrative Offices category, the Sarikei Divisional Administration Office clinched first place, while the Sarawak Public Works Department was named champion in the Departments category.

Sarawak Water topped the Statutory Bodies, Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) and Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) category.

Meanwhile, the Dayak Bidayuh National Association emerged champion in the Associations category, while the Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak took the Special Creativity Award.

The competition saw 107 contingents from various ministries, departments and government agencies, statutory bodies, GLCs, IPT and associations take part in the prestigious ceremony.

The competition not only recognised the contingents' excellence in discipline, uniformity and creativity, but also highlighted the team spirit and commitment of each organisation in making the celebration a success.

The Grand Parade and Rally was among the main events of the 80th birthday celebration of the Sarawak Governor, and served as a platform to strengthen unity and togetherness among participants and the people of Sarawak. -UKASnews
