Four Mega Bridges In Sarawak Targeted To Open, Completed By Year-End
KUCHING: Four mega bridges in Sarawak are scheduled to open to traffic or be completed by December this year, including Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, which will shorten travel time between Sri Aman and Betong from one hour to approximately 25 minutes.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the 1.7-kilometre Batang Paloh Bridge is scheduled to open on October 30, followed by the 870-metre Batang Lupar 2 Bridge in November.
“The Batang Paloh Bridge is scheduled to open to traffic on October 30, 2026, bringing the total number of completed mega bridges in Sarawak to 13,” he said.
He said this during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
He said the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge, which has a 145.5-metre-high tower, would reduce the travel distance between Sri Aman and Betong from 73 kilometres to approximately 28 kilometres.
“Once this bridge is completed, travel time between Sri Aman and Betong will be reduced from one hour to around 25 minutes,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development revealed that the 2.39-kilometre Batang Saribas 2 Bridge in Pusa, Betong Division, is targeted for completion in December to provide another road link across Batang Saribas.
In addition, the 772.4-metre Sungai Limbang Bridge in northern Sarawak is expected to open to the public in the same month.
He added that the opening of the Sungai Limbang Bridge was expected to reduce travel time by up to one hour and 30 minutes, while also enhancing Limbang’s tourism potential.
Overall, 22 mega bridges worth RM6.55 billion are being developed in Sarawak, with 12 having opened to the public since November 2024. -UKASnews
