Kuching Redevelopment To Include Modern Buildings & Centralised ART Station
KUCHING: The redevelopment of Kuching city will involve the construction of modern buildings and a centralised Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) station.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said several key measures would be undertaken, including a proposal to demolish existing buildings to make way for new developments extending towards the shipyard area.
He said the redevelopment formed part of the long-term plan to revitalise the city's landscape and provide a more organised public transport system.
“We will develop a modern building here, extending towards the shipyard area. A centralised ART station will also be built in front of it,” he said.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Gurdwara Sahib Kuching extension at the Kuching Sikh Temple on Sunday.
He revealed that plans to transform the area had been discussed as early as 2013 and 2014, reflecting the Government's continued efforts to plan modern developments for Kuching.
In a separate development, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari announced a contribution of a smartboard worth approximately RM10,000 to equip the Sikh community classroom with digital learning facilities.
The facility is expected to provide students with access to various online educational resources, including the Khan Academy platform, which offers learning materials covering a wide range of subjects.
He said access to such digital learning resources would broaden educational opportunities and help equip the younger generation with knowledge in science and technology.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, and Sarawak Sikh Temple Association president Dato Dr Kalwinder Singh. -UKASnews
