Toh Puan Fauziah Graces Batik Pelikat Fun Walk 2026
KUCHING: The wife of the Sarawak Governor, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, joined and officiated at the Batik Pelikat Fun Walk 2026, which attracted 450 participants at Pangkalan Sapi here on Saturday.
Organised by the Sarawak Women's Association Federation (PPWS), the programme adopted the Batik Pelikat theme to celebrate Sarawak's cultural heritage and encourage younger generations to appreciate and uphold local traditions, while promoting healthy living.
PPWS chairperson Dato Norhyati Mohd Ismail said the programme was more than just a sporting and recreational activity, serving as an important platform to foster unity and strengthen bonds within the community.
“This reflects the growing public awareness of the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being, while spending quality time with family and friends,” she said in her speech.
She added that the PPWS Fun Walk had been held in five locations across Sarawak, namely Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Limbang and Kuching, which marked the final venue for this year's programme.
She said PPWS planned to make the Fun Walk an annual event, with a different theme each year, while the organisation would celebrate its 65th anniversary next year.
In another development, Dato Norhyati announced that PPWS would organise the 'WeCare 2026: Women Care in Economic Conference' on 5 December as a platform for sharing knowledge and insights on the care economy, particularly elderly care.
She said the conference was also part of efforts to prepare women for Sarawak's changing demographic landscape, as the state is expected to become an ageing society by 2029. -UKASnews
