KUCHING: A total of 128 children received school bags and school supplies at the Back To School and Jelajah Yayasan Kepimpinan Al-Baik Barber Programme held on Sunday, while overall, 2,126 children across Sarawak benefited from the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak Back To School initiative this year.
This was emphasised by Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) General Manager Datu Abg Mohd Shibli Abg Mohd Nailie when officiating the programme at the Centre Court of Majma Mall, Kompleks Islam Sarawak.
The programme also featured free haircut services provided by alumni of the Akademi Latihan Insan, reflecting TBS’ skills-based empowerment approach through community involvement.
Datu Abg Mohd Shibli said the Back To School initiative has been implemented consistently over the past few years and will continue, as it has delivered meaningful impact in preparing children both physically and mentally for the school session.
“What is important is that children from low-income households do not miss the opportunity to learn. Knowledge is one of the best remedies to lift ourselves out of life’s difficulties,” he said.
He noted that many successful individuals today did not come from wealthy backgrounds, but were able to progress through education, which equips individuals to face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.
Sharing his own experience, he said hardships should not be seen as barriers, but as motivation for institutions and society to provide opportunities that encourage children to continue learning and achieve their goals.
He also highlighted that Islam places strong emphasis on the pursuit of knowledge, stressing that education serves as a guide in shaping values, culture and personal development within society.
He further cited Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to education, including initiatives that provide financial support for higher education, as proof that learning remains a key investment for the state’s future.
He urged parents and guardians to view the return to school not as a burden, but as the first step towards success, while reminding families that positive change begins with individual effort and determination.
Also present were TBS Deputy General Manager Iskandar Allan, Head of Operations Sector Mohd Yusree Mohd Zain, Head of Development and Wakaf Sector Nazri Madon, and TBS staff involved in the programme. -UKASnews
