HDC Committed To Ensuring Housing Assistance Benefit The Needy
KUCHING: The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that public housing assistance continues to benefit those who are genuinely in need through the implementation of fair, transparent, and prudent management of the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR).
According to HDC, the management of Rented PPR is carried out based on established guidelines and criteria to ensure that housing assistance can be distributed equitably to low-income groups requiring government support.
In a statement on Friday, HDC explained that the PPR programme was established as temporary accommodation for low-income families occupying government land as well as those who are not yet able to own their own homes.
The programme offers low and affordable rental rates with a maximum tenancy period of 10 years.
To ensure that housing assistance continues to be channeled to eligible groups, HDC conducts periodic eligibility reviews of tenants, thereby providing opportunities for more families in need to benefit from the housing facility.
Among the aspects assessed in the lease renewal process are the duration of the tenancy, household income, ownership of a house or land, rental and utility payment records, and compliance with tenancy conditions.
According to HDC, each application for lease renewal will be scrutinised on a case-by-case basis by the Special Housing Tenancy Approval Committee (SHTAC), taking into account various welfare factors such as health issues, loss of income, and family dependents.
In the meantime, the increase in applications for PPR units indicates that the demand for rented housing assistance remains high among the people.
In connection with this, HDC constantly strives to ensure that the distribution of public housing facilities is carried out in an orderly manner and benefits those who need it most.
HDC also urged the public to obtain information regarding PPR policies and management from official channels to avoid confusion, while reinforcing its commitment to continuously strengthen public housing management for the well-being of the community, particularly the B40 group. — UKASnews
