Unity The Foundation Of Sarawak Nation Building, Key To Stability & Prosperity
KUCHING: The unity practiced by the multi-ethnic and multi-religious society in Sarawak serves as an important foundation in nation building, standing as the primary factor for the state's stability and prosperity.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian said the harmonious way of life practiced by Sarawakians allows various religious and social groups to gather and interact in an atmosphere full of respect and mutual understanding.
He explained that stability and prosperity are deeply needed, especially when facing economic uncertainties caused by the Middle East war which impacts all citizens of the state.
"We are not at war, but because of the conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Iran, and other parties, we all experience the effects as well.
"That is why we need unity, stability, and peace, and we must have prosperity, good values, and many more. It is very straightforward, which is why all of this is part of our nation building," he said when speaking at the 2026 Wesak Day Opening Ceremony at the Sarawak Buddhist Association on Sunday.
In addition, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim shared that the Sarawak Government continues to demonstrate its commitment toward inter-faith harmony through various forms of assistance and support for religious and educational institutions.
According to him, over RM580 million has been channeled to houses of worship of various religions since 2017, while RM90 million has been allocated to churches and temples this year.
The Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government added that the state government has also provided an allocation of RM30 million for educational purposes, which also benefits educational institutions managed by religious bodies. — UKASnews
