Kampung Simpok Pesta Sungai dan Rami Gawai Empowers Bidayuh Heritage
SIBURAN: The 8th edition of Pesta Sungai dan Rami Gawai at Kampung Simpok continues to serve as an important platform in preserving and reviving the cultural heritage of the Bidayuh community.
Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Tarat Assemblyman, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, said that the organisation of the festival holds great potential to expand into a cultural event capable of attracting the participation of more Bidayuh communities from other areas in the future.
“However, careful planning must be carried out to ensure that the river's capacity and safety aspects are always prioritized in efforts to expand its organization,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, which took place at the Kampung Simpok Waterfront on Saturday.
The highlight of the festival featured a decorated raft procession involving six zones of Kampung Simpok, namely Kandis, Serui, Pedat, Regu, Tengah, and Tedon Tiang, each showcasing their own creativity and unique identity.
The Kampung Simpok Pesta Sungai dan Rami Gawai will continue with various cultural events in the evening before drawing to a close this coming June 3 through activities such as fishing, telematches, and traditional arts competitions.
Also present during the event was Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament Datuk Willie Mongin. — UKASnews
