Sibu Poised To Become A Hub For Business Events & Industrial Tourism
SIBU: Sibu has significant potential to strengthen its position, as well as that of Sarawak as a whole, as a leading destination for business events and industrial tourism.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said the organisation of international-scale events in the region not only strengthens the related industries but also generates substantial economic benefits for local communities.
“Conventions and exhibitions such as the one held today not only reinforce Sibu and Sarawak as promising destinations for business events and industrial tourism, but also provide visitors with the opportunity to experience our culture.
“This will also benefit our economy, particularly local businesses, the tourism sector and the community,” he said when officiating at the opening ceremony of the 2026 International Automotive Business Convention and Exhibition at Kingwood Hotel here on Saturday.
Dato Sri Tiong explained that the automotive industry is currently undergoing rapid growth in tandem with advancements in digital technology, smart mobility, electric vehicles (EVs), artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable practices.
In this regard, the Dudong Assemblyman urged industry players to continue innovating, enhance workforce skills and adapt to current market trends in order to remain competitive.
“I am pleased that Sibu is playing an active role in promoting technical innovation and entrepreneurship within the automotive sector.
“This reflects the capability and determination of local industry players to remain competitive and relevant, while also creating more opportunities for the younger generation to build careers in this field,” he said.
He added that skilled workers and technical professionals are valuable assets in driving the nation’s development towards a technology-driven economy. -UKASnews
