Sarawak To Host 7th Islamic Solidarity Games In 2029
SAUDI ARABIA: Sarawak is set to host the 7th Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in 2029 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sarawak Government, Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) and Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) for the prestigious sporting event.
The MoU signing, held in conjunction with the 15th ISSA General Assembly in Taif, here, marks an important step towards realising Sarawak’s hosting of ISG 2029 and strengthening joint preparations between ISSA, the Sarawak Government and OCM.
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Sarawak is committed to working closely with the Malaysian Government and ISSA to ensure the successful staging of the event.
“Should we be given the privilege of hosting the Games, please be assured that the Sarawak Government will work closely with the Malaysia Government and ISSA to deliver a Games worthy of its spirit and aspirations.
“We are committed to doing our utmost to be a gracious and excellent host, and to provide an environment where sporting excellence, friendship and solidarity among our nations can flourish,” he said at the MoU signing ceremony.
The hosting of the 7th ISG will provide Sarawak with an opportunity to continue showcasing its capabilities in organising international-scale sporting events while highlighting its cultural diversity, hospitality and spirit of unity to athletes, officials and visitors from ISSA member countries.
The effort is further supported by Sarawak’s experience in hosting major sporting events, including the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 as well as its role as a co-host of the 33rd SEA Games Malaysia in 2027.
The ISG is held every four years and bring together athletes from ISSA member countries on a platform that combines sporting excellence, friendship and solidarity among nations.
Also present at the MoU signing ceremony were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) Datu Hii Chang Kee, ISSA President His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz Turki Faisal Al Saud, OCM President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, ISSA Secretary-General Nasser Ayman Majali and OCM Secretary-General Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali. -UKASnews
